Why it matters
Most orgs still route AI work to engineering out of habit from the pre-LLM era. That habit is the reason so many AI features work in demos and fail in production — the person defining 'good' was never at the table. Ground truth, eval criteria, and LLM-as-judge prompts all trace back to a domain expert's judgment.
